Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for volunteering, provide relevant skills, and specify your availability. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully developed; for instance, when mentioning your interest in 'conservation things,' you could briefly explain why this specific area of the museum appeals to you. The structure is logical, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, meeting the requirements of a formal request effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is well-organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this,' 'Moreover,' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the flow between sentences is more natural. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the letter is easy to read and understand.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'conservation,' 'development,' and 'contribute.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'conservation things' (which is vague) and 'acquired certificate' (which should be 'acquired a certificate'). Additionally, 'Social Service course' is slightly unnatural; 'a course in social work' would be more precise. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to use more precise and sophisticated terminology to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at museum' instead of 'at the museum') and prepositions ('at Waterloo University from past two years' should be 'for the past two years'). There are also minor issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization, such as 'several skill' instead of 'several skills.' These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic articles and verb tenses will significantly improve your accuracy.
