Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate has addressed all parts of the task prompt reasonably well. They explained the motivation for wanting to work at the museum by mentioning seeing a poster and expressing a desire to secure a permanent job later. They described relevant skills and qualities, such as computer typing speed and working under pressure, and provided details about availability by stating they are available on the coming Monday. However, some bullet points are slightly underdeveloped, and the reasoning for wanting to work at the museum lacks depth. For instance, stating that working in the museum enhances analytical skills is somewhat vague. Despite these minor limitations, all bullet points are covered, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear overall arrangement with an appropriate opening and sign-off, utilizing paragraphs to separate different ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' are used to sequence information. However, referencing and transitions are at times awkward or mechanical, such as 'However, other thing is I get a chance...', which disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts and grammatical issues. Overall, cohesion is functional but displays noticeable flaws, fitting the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'analytical skills', 'organizational skills', and 'diverse teams'. However, there are numerous spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'becasue' instead of 'because', 'anylatical' instead of 'analytical', 'develope' instead of 'develop', 'sharp' instead of 'sharpen', 'dirverse' instead of 'diverse', 'helpfull' instead of 'helpful', 'facsinating ablity' instead of 'fascinating ability', and 'avalible' instead of 'available'. While these errors are noticeable, communication is not seriously impeded, which aligns well with the Band 5.0 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'because I have see a poster' (incorrect verb form), 'working in the museum will enhance my anylatical skills and helps me' (tense inconsistency), 'other thing is I get a chance' (missing article/poor phrasing), and 'I am avalible on next coming Moday' (preposition and spelling errors). These errors are frequent and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, although meaning can generally still be understood. This performance is characteristic of a Band 5.0 level.
