Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all the bullet points required by the task. The purpose of writing is clearly stated, suitable skills and qualities such as communication abilities and art knowledge are described, and specific availability details are provided. The ideas presented are relevant to the context of applying for a museum role. However, certain parts of the response show some lack of full development. For example, while the reason for wanting to do voluntary work is mentioned, it remains somewhat general and could be expanded to fully meet the higher level. Similarly, the description of skills touches upon communication and art history, but the explanation of how these would be applied is slightly brief. Overall, the content satisfies the requirements well, showing a clear connection to the prompt while leaving room for greater depth in supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical flow of ideas from the purpose of the letter to the candidate's skills, proximity to the venue, and finally availability. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as placing the availability details in a dedicated concluding paragraph before the sign-off. Cohesive devices are employed, though some referencing and linking choices feel a bit mechanical or basic, such as the repeated use of comma splices to link clauses rather than varied conjunctions. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the links between sentences occasionally lack smoother transitions. To reach the next band, the letter would benefit from a more flexible and varied use of cohesive devices, ensuring that relationships between sentences and paragraphs are managed with greater precision and flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing enough range to communicate the main points effectively. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items related to the context, such as 'constructively', 'upskill', and 'art history'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the response, including 'writting' instead of writing, 'voluntaring' instead of volunteering, 'museam' instead of museum, 'leasure' instead of leisure, 'contructively' instead of constructively, 'knowlege' instead of knowledge, and 'thier' instead of their. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the score at this level. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater control over spelling, word forms, and lexical precision, avoiding basic slips in common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures through relative clauses and conditional-style phrasing. There are, however, several grammatical errors present. Issues include tense and verb form inaccuracies, such as 'is going to over soon' instead of is going to be over soon or will be over soon, and 'allow me to reach at work' where the preposition 'at' is unnecessary. Punctuation issues also appear, notably the reliance on comma splices to join independent clauses, such as 'I have good communication skills which will help me connecting with our guest with ease, this will make thier visit a memorable one.' Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is rarely impeded. For further improvement, the writer should focus on eliminating recurring grammatical inaccuracies and enhancing control over complex sentence patterns and punctuation.
