Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all three key bullet points required by the prompt, which places it at this level. You successfully explain your motivation for wanting to work at the museum, mentioning your interest in history and ancient paintings. You also describe useful skills and qualities, such as managing records and guiding visitors, and provide details of your availability on weekends. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated. For instance, the explanation of why you want to do the work relies heavily on general statements rather than deeper elaboration. To reach a higher band, you would need to fully extend and support all your ideas with richer detail and clearer justification throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, starting with an appropriate greeting and following a logical flow from your motivation to your skills and availability. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct topics. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always entirely clear. For example, the transition in the third paragraph uses basic connectors, and referencing pronouns like 'which are asked' feel slightly awkward in context. To improve further, you should aim for more flexible and seamless cohesive devices, ensuring that relationships between ideas are signaled naturally without relying on repetitive transitional patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, allowing you to communicate your message about volunteering, history, and availability. You attempt less common vocabulary such as 'voluntary', 'ancient paintings', and 'crew member'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that slightly detract from the writing, such as 'studing', 'greatfull', 'heptic', and 'scedule'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect an inconsistent control of word forms and spelling. To achieve a higher score, you need to expand your lexical range, improve accuracy in spelling, and demonstrate a more precise control of collocations and word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses like 'It would be greatfull, if you allow me to do voluntary work...' and '...the people who will visit.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including tense and agreement slips like 'i want' and 'that why i am interested', as well as unnecessary commas. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To move up to the next band, you must increase the proportion of error-free sentences, demonstrate a wider variety of complex structures with better control, and refine your punctuation and article usage.
