Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You explain your motivation to do voluntary work by mentioning your proximity to the museum and your interest in history, describe relevant skills such as your English communication and historical knowledge, and provide specific details about your availability. However, your ideas are sometimes under-developed or expressed rather simply. For instance, your explanation of why you want to volunteer and your description of your skills lack full elaboration. To reach a higher standard, you would need to extend these points with more specific details and fully develop each part of the prompt while maintaining a clear and appropriate tone for a formal application letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement, and the reader can easily follow your general purpose and the information provided. You attempt to use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'for example', though referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or somewhat faulty, as seen in phrases like 'So now a days in the evening time...'. Paragraphing is also somewhat basic, with a heavy block of text in the middle body section that combines multiple ideas. To improve, you should ensure a smoother progression of ideas across paragraphs, use a wider range of cohesive devices naturally, and structure your letter with clearer, distinct paragraphs for each main topic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your basic message. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'voluntary', 'utilise', and 'communication', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout your response. For example, you write 'curusity' instead of curiosity, 'forgiener' instead of foreigner, and misuse phrases like 'tutor guide job'. While these lexical errors do not completely impede communication, they do restrict your flexibility and precision. To achieve a higher level, you need to expand your vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word formation, and eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as when you write '...which would be help in my future.' There are noticeable errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and awkward word order like 'easily i can understand forgiener language'. Although these errors are present, your meaning is generally clear and they rarely impede communication completely. To move up to the next standard, you should increase your control over complex sentence structures, improve your punctuation and capitalization, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
