Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my interest in the part-time voluntary position at your museum, which i recently learned about through a local advertisement. I would be delighted to contribute my time and skills to your museum.

I am particularly interested in volunteering because I have always been fascinated by history, art and local culture. I believe that working at a museum would allow me to learn more about my community while helping vistiors have an enjoyable and informative experience.

I am responsible , patient and frindly person with excellent communication and organisational skills. I am comfortable interacting with people of different ages and backgrounds, and I can explain information clearly and politely. I would be happy to assist visitors, provide directions, organise exhibits or carry out any other duties required.

Regarding my availability, I am free on weekday evenings from 5:00 p.m. onwards and throughout the day at weekends. I would be able to volunteer for approximately six to eight hours per week and could start from next month.

I would be grateful if you could consider my application. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I could contribute to your museum and look forward to hearing from you.

You faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0

The response covers all parts of the task very well and fulfills the requirements of the letter format. You clearly explain why you want to do voluntary work at the museum by mentioning your fascination with history, art, and local culture. You also thoroughly describe your useful skills and qualities, such as being responsible, patient, and friendly, with strong communication abilities. Furthermore, you provide clear details about your availability, specifying weekday evenings and weekends, alongside the exact number of hours you can contribute per week. All bullet points are fully addressed and well-developed, giving the reader a complete and engaging profile of an enthusiastic applicant.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0

The letter demonstrates a clear logical progression and a natural, coherent overall arrangement. Ideas are grouped logically into distinct paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose in the letter. For instance, the second paragraph outlines your motivations, the third details your skills, and the fourth explains your availability. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and cohesive devices such as 'Regarding my availability' and 'I would be grateful if' are managed well to guide the reader smoothly through the response without any mechanical feel.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The response uses an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'fascinated', 'informative experience', and 'organisational skills'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'vistiors' instead of 'visitors', 'frindly' instead of 'friendly', and the lowercase 'i' in the opening paragraph. Additionally, the sign-off 'You faithfully' contains a minor slip and should be 'Yours faithfully'. These occasional errors and minor spelling slips prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band, even though communication is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5

The letter displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating control over grammatical forms. You use complex structures effectively, such as 'I believe that working at a museum would allow me to learn more about my community while helping visitors have an enjoyable and informative experience.' There are occasional errors in grammar and punctuation, such as the missing article or incorrect comma placement before 'a responsible , patient and frindly person', but the majority of sentences are clear and correct. These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication and showcase a solid command of English grammar.
