Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your personal connection to the museum, identify communication and cashier experience, and state that weekends are available. The childhood visits and nearby home give a relevant reason for applying, while your work history offers useful evidence of suitability. However, some points are only briefly explained. For example, you say you know the museum’s history but do not specify what knowledge or topics you could share, and your availability could be clearer about hours or a preferred start date. The opening also names a specific director despite the task’s prescribed greeting. Develop the reasons and skills a little further, and keep the letter’s formality consistent, to make the application more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter follows a generally sensible order: application and background, relevant skills, then availability and closing. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and phrases such as “I am currently working” and “Those two days” connect information. However, progression within the first paragraph is uneven: the museum visit, warehouse job, and childhood memories are placed together without clear links explaining how each supports the application. Some connections are also repetitive, particularly the repeated statement that you would love to volunteer. Use clearer transitions to show how your experience and motivation relate, and organise each paragraph around one main purpose. This would make the overall progression easier to follow and reduce the impression of ideas being added one after another.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “communication skill,” “interact,” “history,” and “cashier counter.” The references to your warehouse and gas-station experience also make the application specific. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “volunteer work in museum,” “work as volunteer,” and “no fees for school student.” Repetition of “volunteer” and “work” also reduces variety. Choose more natural application language and precise collocations, for example, “volunteer at the museum” and “school students could enter free of charge.” Check spelling and word forms as well, including “a lot” and “students,” so the reader can understand your meaning smoothly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the main message using mostly simple sentences, with some attempts to combine ideas, such as “which can help” and “so I can also work.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur in basic sentence formation, tense, articles, and agreement. For example, “I hope you are doing well, I am writing” joins two independent clauses with only a comma; “When i visit last week” uses an incorrect tense; and “I am living just 5 minute walk” is missing grammatical elements. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “i.” Use past simple for completed events, add articles and plural endings where needed, and separate or join clauses correctly. More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter clearer.
