Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this message finds you well. I recently noticed the job posting near the heritage museum situated close to my house, which is looking for part-time volunteers for unpaid work. I am reaching out to apply for the available position as I am always intrested in supporting historical buildings with its restoration and/or maintenance.
To give you a brief overview of my background, I am a history major who achieved highest rank at the Grandpark University in the archeological studies and fossil restorations. In addition to that, I posses specialization in leadership and management roles. As my qualifications directly aligns with my interest and museum's work post, I am inclined to apply for this available position.
Furthermore, I find myself comfortable when working in harsh environment and deeply captivated to help with the restoration of the museum as a volunteer. I belive, I would be the best fit for this position. I am available to work anytime during weekends and also in the evening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you require any additional information about my background.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Vishalkumar Rana

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain your motivation through your interest in restoration and maintenance, describe relevant study and leadership experience, and specify weekend and Tuesday/Wednesday evening availability. Your purpose is clear throughout, and the details about archaeological studies and fossil restoration help support your application. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain more specifically how your background would help with museum tasks—for example, assisting visitors, cataloguing objects, or supporting conservation work. The motivation is also somewhat general: a brief personal reason for valuing this particular museum would make the application more persuasive. Overall, the required information is present and relevant, with room to extend the supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the application, present your background, describe your suitability and availability, and close politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, while transitions such as “In addition to that” and “Furthermore” help connect related points. The reader can follow the purpose without difficulty. Some linking is a little formulaic, and the second paragraph’s qualifications and application rationale could be connected more smoothly. The final two sentences also repeat the expectation of a reply in slightly different ways. For stronger cohesion, use transitions more selectively and make each paragraph develop one central point, with the closing focused on a single courteous next step.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a reasonably varied range for a formal application, including “archaeological studies,” “fossil restorations,” “specialization,” and “qualifications.” These choices communicate relevant experience and show an attempt to use less common vocabulary. However, several spelling and word-choice or collocation slips reduce precision, such as “intrested,” “posses,” “belive,” and “captivated to help.” “Harsh environment” also sounds more suited to difficult outdoor conditions than museum volunteering, while “supporting historical buildings with its restoration” is awkwardly phrased. These errors do not prevent understanding, but more natural, accurate combinations would make the letter sound more professional. Aim for precise vocabulary that reflects the actual duties you hope to undertake.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening clause “I recently noticed…” and the conditional-style phrase “if you require any additional information.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the letter’s formal structure is controlled. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in agreement and articles: “qualifications directly aligns” should be “qualifications directly align,” and “the museum’s work post” needs a more natural grammatical construction. In “supporting historical buildings with its restoration,” the pronoun does not agree with the plural noun. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary opportunities in the longer opening sentence. Review agreement, article use, and sentence structure to improve accuracy while retaining this range.
