Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I have recently heard about the part-time voluntary/unpaid work at your museum. I am glad to hear about this opportunity. I really like the historical places and museums and often spend my idle time visiting different museums in the city. Moreover, I am not doing any work these days and looking for some job, I think it would be great if you consider me for this part-time work.
I am very interested to work at this museum and volunteer myself for this job. I have also a past exprience of working at a small museum near my home. I worked there for more than two weeks and the management was very satisfied with my work and skillset.
I am currently not working and would be available immediately to join your museum. Please let me know what you think about this. I would be gald to work with you at your museum and gain some more experience. I am looking forward for your positive response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You make your purpose clear by saying you are applying to volunteer, and you give relevant reasons: you enjoy visiting museums and have previous experience at a small museum. You also state that you are available immediately. However, the task asks you to describe useful skills and qualities, and this part is only briefly addressed through the general phrase “my work and skillset”; no specific abilities or personal qualities are identified. Your reason that you are currently looking for a job also makes the motivation sound more focused on employment than on unpaid service. Develop these points with concrete examples, such as welcoming visitors or being reliable, and clarify your interest in contributing to the museum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure: you introduce the opportunity, explain your interest and experience, then discuss availability and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “I am looking forward” guide the reader. However, progression within the first paragraph is somewhat repetitive: you say you are glad about the opportunity, enjoy museums, and are interested in the work without clearly linking these ideas. The transition from wanting unpaid work to “looking for some job” is also unclear. Organise the reasons in a more deliberate sequence and use references such as “this experience” to connect your past work to the skills you could offer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main purpose, including “voluntary,” “opportunity,” “historical places,” and “management.” However, the range is limited and some expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “idle time,” “volunteer myself for this job,” and “positive response.” There are also noticeable spelling errors in “exprience” and “gald,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for more natural collocations suited to a formal application, and choose specific terms for the contribution you could make, such as assisting visitors or supporting exhibitions. Proofreading would help you avoid spelling slips and make your wording more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your meaning is generally understandable, and you attempt some longer sentence forms, for example, “I am not doing any work these days and looking for some job.” However, this construction is incomplete because the second verb needs a subject and auxiliary (“I am looking”), and the sentence would be clearer if divided or linked more carefully. In “I have also a past experience,” the placement of “also” and the article use are inaccurate; “I also have previous experience” is more natural. The phrase “I am looking forward for” uses the wrong preposition after “look forward.” Most sentences rely on simple patterns, so practise combining accurate clauses and checking verb forms, articles, and prepositions.
