Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you about the unpaid work at your museum which I saw an advertisement in the newspaper.
To begin with, last week, I saw an advertise about part time voluntary work available at your museum. I am intrested to do that work as it gives me some exposure about the culture and tradition. For that reason, I would like to do some unpaid work. Moreover, I do have some skills that would be useful for this job. For example, an interpersonal communication skill, positive attitude, multitasking etc. I think, it would be useful to you for the hiring process.
Furthermore, I can work on the weekend as I have classes on the weekdays. If you could give me work on the weekend then it would be a great help for me. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you for your time and consideration to this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the three main points: you explain that you want cultural exposure, mention communication and multitasking skills, and state that weekends suit your schedule because you attend weekday classes. The purpose of applying is clear, and the letter is appropriately directed to the museum. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The reason for choosing this museum is quite general, and the skills are listed rather than supported with an example of how you could use them with visitors or museum staff. The availability details could also be more precise, such as which days or hours you can work. Developing these details would make the application more persuasive and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening application, a paragraph about your motivation and skills, and a closing paragraph about availability. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal the progression, and the reader can follow your main points. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and some ideas are placed together without a clear relationship. For example, “I think, it would be useful to you for the hiring process” follows the skills list but does not explain how those skills would help in the museum role. Use transitions more selectively and connect each supporting detail directly to the point it develops.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for an application letter, including “voluntary work,” “interpersonal communication,” “positive attitude,” and “multitasking.” These choices make your purpose and relevant qualities understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “request you about the unpaid work,” “exposure about the culture,” and “an advertise.” There are also spelling errors in “intrested” and “advertise.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, but they reduce precision and polish. Aim for natural application-letter phrases and check spelling carefully; more precise wording would help you describe both your motivation and the contribution you could make.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “as I have classes on the weekdays” and the conditional request, “If you could give me work on the weekend then it would be a great help for me.” Most of the message remains clear, and errors rarely obstruct meaning. Some grammatical patterns need more control. For example, “I am writing this letter to request you about” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “I am intrested to do that work” uses an unsuitable infinitive construction. The sentence beginning “For example” is also a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Practise accurate verb patterns and turn listed examples into complete sentences.
