Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I Simranjeet Kaur resident of Surrey, BC. I would like to show my interest of part-time volunteering at the museum. I am keenly interested in this position as I have a similar experience to this. I have been worked as a guest relationship executive in a restaurant where I was responsible for taking feedbacks, greeting guests and having a conversation while they leave after their food. I am good at a customer service, and I have also handled customer complaints in many situations. I love going to museums and this is the one of my favourite place where I really like visiting, and It will be great if I get the opportunity to work here. Along with that, I will gain experience while working here. Moreover, my availability to work will be every evening of weekdays and weekends I will be fully available. I request you to consider this letter and I would appreciate your consideration.
I will be looking forward to your response.
Thank you so much,
Simranjeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requirements: you explain your interest in the museum, describe relevant customer-service experience, and state when you are available. The restaurant role gives a useful reason to consider your application, especially your experience greeting guests and handling complaints. Your motivation is also clear, although the point that you enjoy visiting museums and hope to gain experience could be developed more specifically—for example, by explaining what you would contribute to visitors or what aspect of the museum interests you. The skills section focuses mainly on customer service; adding another relevant quality, such as patience or reliability, would make the application more complete. Overall, the purpose is clear, but some points are less fully explained than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a generally sensible order: it introduces your application, gives your experience and motivation, then explains your availability and closes politely. This makes the main message easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Along with that” and “Moreover” help connect ideas, though the sequence sometimes feels mechanical, and several different points are crowded into one long paragraph. The repeated references to liking the museum and wanting the opportunity could be organised more distinctly from your work experience. Use separate paragraphs for your motivation and relevant skills, followed by availability and the closing. This would make the progression clearer and help the reader identify each part of your application.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal application, including “guest relationship executive,” “customer complaints,” “availability,” and “consideration.” These choices communicate your experience and purpose. However, some word combinations and forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “interest of part-time volunteering,” “taking feedbacks,” and “good at a customer service.” “This is the one of my favourite place” also contains awkward phrasing and agreement in the noun phrase. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations and concise wording, and check whether nouns are countable or uncountable when choosing forms such as “feedback.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can understand your application throughout. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, and agreement. For example, “I Simranjeet Kaur resident of Surrey, BC” is not a complete sentence; “I have been worked” uses an incorrect verb form; and “this is the one of my favourite place” has problems with the article and singular/plural agreement. The long sentence beginning “I love going to museums” also joins several ideas without clear punctuation. Practise complete introductory sentences, present-perfect forms such as “I have worked,” and accurate article and agreement patterns. These corrections would make your meaning more polished.
