Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

I AM WRITING TO EXPRESS MY INTEREST IN THE PART-TIME VOLUNTARY POSITION AT YOUR MUSEUM. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS, AND I WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR ORGANISATION.

THE MAIN REASON I WOULD LIKE TO WORK AT YOUR MUSEUM IS THAT I HAVE A KEEN INTEREST IN HISTORY AND CULTURE. FURTHERMORE, I BELIEVE THAT VOLUNTEERING WOULD ALLOW ME TO GAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCE, IMPROVE MY COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND LERN MORE ABOUT HISTORICAL OBJECTS AND EXHIBITIONS. I WOULD ALSO ENJOY HELPING VISITORS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MUSEUM'S COLLECTIONS.

REGARDING MY SKILLS AND QUALITY, I AM A RESPONSIBLE, HARDWORKINGAND FRIENDLY PERSON. I CAN COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH OTHERS AND WORK WELL AS PART OF A TEAM. IN ADDITION, I AM WILLING TO LEARN NEW THINGS AND CAN FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. I BELIEVE THESE QUALITIES WOULD MAKE ME A SUITABLE VOLUNTEER FOR YOUR MUSEUM.

AS FOR MY AVAILIBILITY, I WOULD BE ABLE TO WORK ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. I AM ALSO AVAILABLE ON WEEKDAYS EVENINGS AFTER 5 P.M. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS A SUITABLE SCHEDULE ACCORDING TO THE MUSEM'S REQUIREMENT.

I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU COULD CONSIDER MY APPLICATION. I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,

SAAD

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly applies for the volunteer role and addresses all three requested points. Your motivation is specific to the museum: you mention your interest in “history and culture” and wanting to help visitors understand the collections. You also provide relevant personal qualities and give availability for weekends and weekday evenings, then close politely. These details make your purpose clear throughout. To make the application more fully developed, add a concrete example of a relevant skill—for instance, a time you helped customers, explained information, or worked in a team. You could also clarify whether your weekend availability covers both days and how many hours you could offer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

The information is organised in a clear, logical sequence: application and motivation, skills, availability, and closing. Paragraphing supports the purpose, while signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Regarding my skills,” and “As for my availability” help the reader follow each section. The progression is easy to understand, and the final request for consideration provides an appropriate ending. Some transitions are rather formulaic, however, and the letter is written entirely in capitals, which makes it less natural and less easy to read as formal correspondence. Use standard sentence case and connect a few related ideas more smoothly, rather than relying mainly on explicit paragraph-opening phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal application, including “keen interest,” “valuable experience,” “communicate effectively,” and “suitable volunteer.” These choices convey your meaning clearly, and the tone is generally appropriate. However, some spelling and word-form errors reduce precision: “lern,” “quality” where the plural is needed, “availibility,” and “musem’s.” “Hardworkingand” also appears to run two words together. A few expressions are broad, such as “learn new things” and “helping visitors understand”; more precise wording about explaining exhibits or assisting visitors would show greater flexibility. Proofread carefully and choose specific museum-related terms to strengthen the application’s vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

The letter includes a useful mix of simple and complex structures. For example, “I believe that volunteering would allow me to gain valuable experience…” uses a subordinate clause effectively, and “I would appreciate it if you could consider my application” is a well-controlled polite request. Most sentences are clear and grammatical, with punctuation generally supporting the meaning. Some errors remain in grammatical form and sentence construction, including “skills and quality,” where the plural form is required, and “I would be able to work on Saturday and Sunday,” which would be more natural with plural days or an article. The weekday availability phrase also needs a clearer structure, such as “on weekday evenings.” Continue using varied clauses while checking agreement, number, and prepositions.
