Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter in connection with volunteer job at your museum. I heard that you are lokking for someone who can work as a part- time without pay.
I just wanted to let you know that I have just finished my final exams and currently on holidays. I wanted to utilize my spare time to learn something new and to enhance my communication skills.
As I am archeologist student and I love to explore more into that. I have some experience in finding old objects. Honestly, I believe that having a knowledge of this can be useful for you if someone comes in and ask about it, at that moment I can explain that.
However, my availability for this work is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00am to 2:00pm as I'm also taking other computer classes to gain more. Despite, if you need me urgently I can come because it's located in my locality.
I will look forward for your response on this.
Your sincerely,
Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you explain that you want to use your free time to learn and improve communication skills, mention your archaeology studies and experience with old objects, and give specific days and hours. These details make the application relevant and the purpose clear. However, some points are less fully developed: the benefit of your experience to museum visitors is expressed vaguely in “I can explain that,” and your qualities are not described beyond your interest and experience. The offer to come urgently is also not clearly tied to a particular arrangement. To strengthen the letter, explain more precisely what you could help visitors understand and name qualities such as patience, reliability, or enthusiasm.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a generally clear sequence: you introduce your application, explain your motivation, describe relevant experience, and finish with your availability. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Despite” attempt to connect ideas. At times, though, the connections are not fully logical or natural. “However” does not clearly contrast with the preceding paragraph, while “Despite” is not used to introduce the intended condition about urgent requests. Some references, especially “that” in “I can explain that,” are also unclear. Use transitions that show the exact relationship between ideas, and make each paragraph develop one clear point before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the application and include relevant terms such as “communication skills,” “final exams,” and “availability.” There are also attempts at more specific language connected to the role, including “archeologist” and “old objects.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “volunteer job” and “work as a part-time without pay” are not natural ways to describe the position, and “explore more into that” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “lokking” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard application phrases and check spelling; for example, describe yourself as an archaeology student and refer to volunteering or an unpaid position.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “as” and a conditional idea about visitors. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence structure, articles, and verb forms. For example, “I am archeologist student” needs an article, and “currently on holidays” is missing a subject and verb. The sentence beginning “As I am…” is a fragment, while “if someone comes in and ask” has a subject–verb agreement error. “I will look forward for your response” also uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review complete sentence formation, agreement, and common verb patterns, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
