Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. This is Meet Ahir. I just heard about he voluntary work at the museum. I am writing this letter to apply for the opportunity. It's my summer vacation is going on, so I want to gain some work experience in my spare time. Moreover, It maybe assits me in my further career to get good opportunities.
Of course, it needs some skills like lifting objects carefully and cleaning. I have the skill of organising stuff and lifting heavy objects up to 70 lbs. Additionally, I am a science student, so I can provide knowledge to the visitors about the history of science.
I am out of town this week. I am returning next week on Monday. I could start work from Tuesday or after that, whenever you feel it's the right time. You can call me on the provided number or email me anytime. It will be great time
Sincerely,
Meet Ahir
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that you want experience during your summer vacation, describe organisational and lifting skills plus your science background, and state that you could begin next Tuesday. These details make the application relevant and understandable. However, some points are only partly developed. For example, you say the experience may help your future career but do not explain how museum work connects to your goals, and the science knowledge you could share is not illustrated with a specific example. Your availability is clear as a starting date, but you could also specify regular days or hours. A more complete explanation of your motivation and schedule would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a sensible overall order: application and motivation, relevant skills, then availability and contact details. Paragraph breaks help the reader distinguish these sections, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” show how ideas relate. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Of course” does not clearly introduce the skills paragraph, and the final sentence, “It will be great time,” feels unfinished and interrupts the closing. The contact details are mentioned without being supplied, which also leaves the ending less complete. Use transitions that directly signal the next point, and finish with a complete, appropriately formal closing sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for an application, including “work experience,” “organising,” “visitors,” and “career.” These choices communicate your main points, and “organising stuff” and “lifting heavy objects” give concrete examples of practical abilities. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or too informal for a letter to a museum director. “The voluntary work” is less natural than “the voluntary position,” while “provide knowledge to the visitors” would be more idiomatic as “share information with visitors.” There are also spelling errors such as “assits,” and “stuff” is vague. Choose precise, professional expressions and check spelling to make your vocabulary more natural and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. For instance, “I am returning next week on Monday” and “I could start work from Tuesday” communicate your schedule clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence construction and verb forms. “It's my summer vacation is going on” combines two structures; write “My summer vacation is currently underway.” In “It maybe assits me,” the modal construction is incorrect; use “It may assist me.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Moreover, It,” and the closing fragment “It will be great time” needs a complete grammatical structure. Proofreading these patterns would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
