Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You clearly state your purpose in the opening: “I am writing to express my interest in volunteering at your museum.” You also give a relevant reason, explaining your interest in “art, culture, and history” and that you visit with your parents. However, the response addresses only part of the task: it does not describe useful skills or qualities, give your availability, or develop your reasons for applying. The final sentence about “where beings of the monuments” is unclear, so it does not successfully explain what you know about the museum. The response is also 75 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to cover the requested points. Add specific examples for each bullet point and explain how you could help visitors or staff.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a suitable opening and a basic progression from your application to your interest in the museum. The first paragraph is easy to follow, and the second begins with a relevant explanation. However, the response ends abruptly, with no closing or clear transition to skills and availability, so there is not yet a complete overall progression. The connector “So” introduces the final sentence, but the relationship between your regular visits and the claim that follows is difficult to understand. Organise the letter into clear paragraphs—for example, purpose and motivation, relevant qualities, then availability—and use linking phrases to show how each point relates to your application.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use appropriate vocabulary for the purpose, including “express my interest,” “volunteering,” “part-time,” and “contribute to your organization.” These choices make the application’s general topic clear. The range is limited, however, and some wording is inaccurate or unclear. “Candidates” is less natural than “volunteers” in this context, while “where beings of the monuments” does not communicate a clear meaning. You could use more precise language to describe your interest and relevant knowledge, such as “the history behind the exhibits” or “welcoming visitors.” Aim to choose familiar, accurate expressions rather than attempting a phrase whose meaning is uncertain, and include vocabulary for your skills and availability.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes several correctly formed simple sentences, such as “I am writing to express my interest in volunteering at your museum” and “I regularly visit the museum with my parents on the weekends.” You also attempt to connect ideas with “So,” showing some variety beyond isolated statements. However, the sentence “So, I have the knowledge about where beings of the monuments in the museum” contains a faulty construction, and the meaning is consequently difficult to follow. The response offers little evidence of a wider range of sentence patterns. Practise building clear sentences with a main clause and a supporting clause, and check article use and the structure after “knowledge,” for example: “I have learned about the history of some of the museum’s monuments.”
