Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply for the position of voluntry work, which I learned about through your company website. I am particularly interested in this opportunity because it aligns with my skills and experience.
Regarding my qualifications, I have relevent experience as a book keeper . In my previous role, I was responsible for keeping the work area clean and organised . I believe these abilities would enable me to contribute effectively to your organisation. Although, this position is unpaid , I belive that it would help me to enhance my skills and knowladge. Moreover, I would be able to connect with more people.
In addition, I am extremely reliable for providing furthur detail on museum items, which can be beneficial for visitors to know more about this place. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my suitability for the position in greater detail.
I am open to provide my service every working day in the afternoon.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Harsh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You clearly apply for the voluntary role and address all three requested points: you explain that you want to enhance your skills and meet people, mention experience and personal qualities, and state that you are available on working days in the afternoon. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, your bookkeeping experience and keeping a work area organised are not clearly connected to museum duties, while the claim that you can provide details about museum items is not supported by an example of relevant knowledge or experience. Explain more specifically why this museum appeals to you and how your skills would help its visitors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your application, discuss your experience and motivation, add a further quality, and finish with your availability and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking phrases such as “Regarding my qualifications” and “In addition” make the relationships between points clear. The progression is generally logical, though some connections feel formulaic or abrupt. For instance, the move from bookkeeping to providing information about museum items is not explained, and “Although this position is unpaid” interrupts the flow of the qualifications paragraph. To strengthen progression, group related details together and use a brief explanation to show how each skill relates to the role.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of application-letter vocabulary, including “apply,” “qualifications,” “contribute effectively,” and “suitability,” and the intended meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I would welcome the opportunity to discuss.” However, spelling errors in words such as “voluntry,” “relevent,” “belive,” and “knowladge” are noticeable, and some expressions are not natural for this context. “Reliable for providing further detail” does not clearly express a personal quality, and “your company website” is an imprecise description of a museum. Check spelling carefully and choose precise, natural collocations to make your application sound more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the position of voluntary work, which I learned about…” and the conditional structure “Although this position is unpaid, I believe that it would help me…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the letter includes appropriate formal sentence patterns. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, such as “I am open to provide my service,” where the verb pattern should be “open to providing,” and the unnecessary comma in “Although, this position…”. There are also inconsistent spaces before punctuation. Review verb patterns after adjectives and conjunction punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
