Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I would likke to apply for the voluntary work post that you post on magazine like you are looking for part time worker.
I think i am a right fit for that job because i like the historical places and love to do work over there. Moreover, currently i have a drop from my studies. So, i am quite free.
I also have some useful skills like i always eagerly to know about the details for things especially historical, so i love to do that work. Furthermore, i also have little bit knowledge about the museum things, which helps to tell people about that,
I am available for work on weekends, because i also have some school projects to do on weekdays. Moreover, i also lived just near by museum so it is easy for me to come.
I am waiting from hearing back from you.
Yours sincerly,
Komalpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requirements: you explain that you enjoy historical places, mention your interest in learning about historical details and your museum knowledge, and state that weekends suit you because of weekday school projects. Your reason for applying is relevant, and the letter clearly expresses interest in the role. However, some points are only briefly explained: for example, you could say how your interest would help visitors or what you hope to learn through volunteering. The skills section would also be stronger with a specific quality, such as being patient or helpful, and an example of how you use it. Overall, the task is covered, but some ideas need fuller development and clearer detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your application, explain your interest and skills, give your availability, and close politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” show an effort to connect ideas. This meets the expected level of coherent organisation. However, the repeated use of “Moreover” and “also” makes some connections feel mechanical, and a few sentences combine ideas without a smooth relationship. For instance, your proximity to the museum could be linked more directly to your reliability or ability to attend shifts. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make each paragraph develop one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main purpose, with relevant terms such as “voluntary work,” “historical,” “skills,” and “available.” The reader can understand your interest and schedule. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, including “a drop from my studies,” “museum things,” and “waiting from hearing back.” There is also a spelling error in “likke” and “sincerly.” These issues make the letter less fluent and occasionally require the reader to interpret your meaning. Aim for precise phrases suited to a formal application, such as describing a break in your studies, your knowledge of museum exhibits, and looking forward to a response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use some longer sentence forms, including sentences beginning with “because” and “which,” and the main message remains understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven, and several errors affect clarity. For example, “I always eagerly to know” is missing a correctly formed verb phrase, while “i am a right fit” and “i also lived just near by museum” contain problems with articles, capitalisation, and tense. The sentence about your availability also joins ideas in a way that would be clearer with more accurate punctuation and structure. Practise forming complete clauses and checking verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. More accurate simple sentences would make your application easier to follow.
