Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I writing this letter for request about the willing to do voluntary job as part-time worker in the museum.

The main reason to do part-time job especially in the museum to attain knowleadge about distinct cultures and traditions. Additionally, this museum is located very closely to my home and after my college some days I have free time to do some work so I would like to priorities to work in the museum.

Since my childhood, I have substential amount of information about my culture and custom, that boosted my interest in the history major. During my school years and my college placements I learnt numerous paramount skills and qualities that are fundamental for working in the museum like communication to the visitors and describing the deatiled information about the ancient paintings, documents and so on. Subsequently, if I get chance to work in the museum, I would increase my horizons in historical data, manuscripts and other documentations that will be adventageous in my recent studies.

As I mentioned, I am available part-time after my college from 2 pm to 5 pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday. If there are some ocasions in the museum I would able to work on weekends too. Hopefully, I give my detailed information

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requirements: you explain your interest in learning about cultures and history, describe communication and information-sharing skills, and give specific weekday hours with possible weekend availability. The reasons are relevant, and the detail about your college studies helps make the application personal. However, some points are not fully developed: for example, you mention communicating with visitors but do not give a concrete example of when you have used this skill. The final sentence, “Hopefully, I give my detailed information,” is incomplete in purpose and does not clearly close the application or invite a response. A more complete closing request would make the letter feel more fully finished and purposeful.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the application, explains your motivation, presents relevant qualities, and then gives your availability. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Since my childhood,” and “As I mentioned” help connect ideas. Some connections are less smooth, however. The long second paragraph combines your background, skills, and expected benefits without clearly separating these points, while “Subsequently” does not express the relationship between the ideas very naturally. The final sentence also leaves the letter without a clear conclusion. Grouping each main point more tightly and using a direct closing would make the progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “cultures and traditions,” “ancient paintings,” “manuscripts,” and “historical data.” This gives the letter relevant detail, but several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “knowleadge,” “substential,” “deatiled,” and “adventageous.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “attain knowledge” and “increase my horizons in historical data.” Choose more conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, say that you hope to “gain knowledge” and “broaden your understanding.” The range is sufficient to communicate your main ideas, but more accurate and natural phrasing is needed for greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if I get chance to work in the museum, I would increase my horizons.” The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening needs a subject and auxiliary (“I am writing”), and “to request about” is not a correct sentence pattern. Articles and verb forms also need attention in phrases such as “in the museum,” “if I get chance,” and “I would able to work.” The final sentence, “Hopefully, I give my detailed information,” is not a complete, well-formed closing. Practise accurate application-letter patterns and check each sentence for a clear subject, verb, and complete clause.
