Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I would like to request you to give me an opportunity to do part-time voluntary work without any salary or reward.

First of all, I would like to discuss you, why I am hoping this work from your management. So, I am a student and learning a tourist management course as well as I have a task in my semester to find a place which should be related to tourist and do some self unpaid work for a month and make a final report.

In addition, if I talk about my special skills which could be useful for your museum. First is multi-tasking and leadership as well as time management of activity, for example, I can manage a whole schedule with good understanding of local and other travellers desire of visit.

Lastly, I am available in weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so you can give me any kind of work, I will happily take your opportunity.

I would be grateful for your reply.

Your sincerely, Patel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain that your tourism-management course requires unpaid experience, identify skills such as leadership and time management, and state that you are available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the details are relevant. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. For example, you could explain more specifically why this particular museum interests you, and give a concrete example of how your skills would help visitors or staff. The availability is clear, but it would be useful to specify the month or dates when you can begin. A more direct application and a clearer link between your course and the museum would make the request more persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your request, explain your reason, describe your skills, give your availability, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and signposts such as “First of all,” “In addition,” and “Lastly” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of linking. However, the transitions are somewhat formulaic, and the long sentence explaining your course and semester task contains several ideas that would be clearer if divided. The phrase “So” also makes the explanation sound conversational rather than smoothly connected. Use fewer, more natural transitions and organise each paragraph around one main point to make the flow more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the application, including relevant terms such as “tourist management course,” “leadership,” “time management,” and “travellers.” There are also attempts to use more specific language about the museum context. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “discuss you,” “hoping this work from your management,” “desire of visit,” and “take your opportunity.” These choices sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for standard application phrases and check how words combine: for example, say that you are applying for a position, explain your interest in the museum, and describe visitors’ needs. More accurate collocations would improve clarity and tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence explaining your course requirements and a sentence giving examples of your skills. The main message remains understandable, and the letter includes a range of sentence openings. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in clause construction and sentence boundaries. For instance, “I would like to discuss you, why…” does not form a correct clause, while “I am available in weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so you can give me any kind of work, I will happily take your opportunity” joins several clauses without suitable punctuation. There are also issues with articles and prepositions, as in “in weekend.” Break long sentences into shorter units, and check clause structure, articles and punctuation when revising.
