Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter in reference to the need of part-time volenteers for museum.
I wish to work as a volenteer in upcoming week as my school will be closed for the festivel season for 7 days and I am eager to dedicate that time for community service.
I have previously worked at a community charity in our city as a volenteer at which I learned about data collection,Crowd management,Speaking techniques etc not only these skills i am also a hardworker and I am dedicated to learn more skills for my personel satisfaction and career advancement.
I would like to provide more details about my possible availability. My school is off from Monday next week but i will be traveling to meet my grandparents but I shall be back by evening so from next day till friday I have no planned schedule, I am available from Tuseday to Friday all day.
I hope to hear back from you.
Yours Sincerely
Abby.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that you want to contribute to community service, mention previous charity work and relevant skills, and give a clear availability window from Tuesday to Friday. The letter also maintains an appropriate application purpose and includes a suitable closing. Your reasons and experience are relevant, but they could be developed more specifically—for example, explain how crowd management or data collection would help with museum visitors or activities. The availability is mostly clear, although the detail about travelling on Monday could be expressed more directly. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some ideas supported but not fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear sequence: purpose, motivation and experience, availability, then a closing. This makes the main information easy to locate, and phrases such as “I would like to provide more details about my possible availability” help signal a change of topic. The paragraphs also separate the main points appropriately. However, some sentences carry several ideas at once, particularly the sentence beginning “I have previously worked at a community charity,” which combines experience, skills, and personal qualities. Breaking this into shorter units and using clearer links between the ideas would make the progression smoother. The organisation is effective overall, though cohesion is not always fully controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “community service,” “crowd management,” “dedicated,” and “availability,” so the reader can understand your experience and intentions. There is some attempt to use specific terms rather than relying only on basic language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “volenteer,” “festivel,” “personel,” and “Tuseday.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “in reference to the need of part-time volunteers” and “for my personal satisfaction.” These choices reduce precision and polish, even though the message remains understandable. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for applications, such as “apply for a volunteer position” and “gain experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “as” and a time clause beginning “but.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation are frequent enough to affect accuracy. For example, “I have previously worked … at which I learned about data collection,Crowd management,Speaking techniques etc not only these skills i am also…” joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries. The availability sentence also contains a long sequence of clauses that would be clearer as two sentences. Pay attention to capitalisation after full stops, commas in lists, and consistent sentence boundaries. More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity.
