Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
Hoping your are good. I recently heard about the voluntier positions available in museum. I am a not local resident living nearby but want to work for the museum. I came to vancouver for one mont to enjoy the fall season, unfortunately my friend wife got some serious health issue back there so he has to go and my returning ticket is after two week. So i want to spend my liesure time helping your team.
I don,t have any preffered experience of working in such place but i am good at multitasking and use too with fast paced working environment which i think is the most prominent skill for working in a museum. I am aslo good at team coordination because currently I work as event manager, managing 100+ people daily.
As i am here for vacation, i would preferably spend my weekends enjoying the beautiful weather. If you have any position avaible from tuesday to thursday in the daytime, i would be very have to work with your team.
Kind regards,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain that you want to use your leisure time to help, describe multitasking and event-management experience, and specify Tuesday to Thursday daytime availability. The application is relevant, and the example of managing “100+ people daily” gives useful support for your teamwork claim. However, the reason for applying is partly unclear: the story about your friend’s health and your return ticket takes up space without clearly explaining your interest in the museum itself. Your skills are more developed than your motivation and availability, which are stated briefly. Add a specific interest in museums or their visitors, and clarify the dates or hours you can work to make the application more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening explains your circumstances, the next paragraph presents relevant skills, and the final paragraph gives your availability. This makes the main information easy to locate, and phrases such as “because currently I work as event manager” help connect a claim to its evidence. The progression is not always smooth, though: the detailed account of your friend’s situation interrupts the explanation of why you want to volunteer, and “As i am here for vacation” shifts abruptly into your weekend preferences. Use clearer links between your circumstances, motivation, and schedule, and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose. The closing is appropriate for a formal application.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough task-related vocabulary to communicate your application, including “voluntary positions,” “multitasking,” “team coordination,” and “event manager.” The example of managing a large group also gives your description some specificity. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “voluntier,” “preffered,” “liesure,” and “avaible,” and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “use too with fast paced working environment” and “prominent skill.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Proofread spelling carefully and choose conventional collocations, for example, “adapt to a fast-paced environment” and “relevant experience.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because currently I work as event manager” and a conditional availability statement beginning “If you have any position…”. The main message remains understandable, but grammatical errors occur across the letter. Examples include “Hoping your are good” (an incomplete opening and incorrect verb form), “I am a not local resident,” and “my friend wife got some serious health issue,” where articles and possessives are missing or incorrectly used. There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as joining the ticket information and your reason for volunteering with “So.” Work on complete sentence structures, articles, possessives, and consistent capitalization; these changes would make your varied attempts more controlled.
