Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I felt very delighted when my friend told me about voluntary project at your museum. I am keen interested in this job as I want to gain knowledge about our culture and history. I have been very attatched to my roots. So this unpaid intership helps me alot. Moreover this will help in future when i will apply to a job.
I have good communication skills that will help me to guide visitors. Furthermore, I have expeience in customer service so I will encourage public to visit this museum.
As I am on my official college drop for two months. So I want to utilise that time and I am available full time.
Hope you will revert me back as soon as possible and consider me for this job.
Thank you!
Yours faithfully,
Gagan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address all three requested points: you explain your interest in learning about culture and history, mention communication and customer-service experience, and state that you are available full time during a two-month college break. However, the reasons and qualifications are only briefly explained, and the availability period would be clearer with specific dates or days. The response is also 12 words below the required minimum, so there is limited space to develop these points. Add a specific example of how you could help visitors, explain what attracts you to this museum, and give a clearer availability schedule. The application purpose is understandable, but fuller development would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces your interest, presents relevant skills, gives your availability, and closes with a request. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” make the progression easy to follow. This already provides a coherent structure, though some linking is mechanical or awkward. For example, “So” begins a sentence after “As I am on my official college drop,” creating an unnecessary break in the relationship between the ideas. The final request also follows the availability point quite abruptly. Connect related ideas within sentences and use a more natural transition into your closing request to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to a museum application, including “communication skills,” “customer service,” “visitors,” and “culture and history.” These choices make your purpose and experience understandable. However, several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision, such as “attatched,” “intership,” “expeience,” and “keen interested.” Some expressions are also unnatural in this context, including “official college drop” and “revert me back.” Aim for accurate, conventional phrases used in formal applications, and check spelling carefully. A slightly wider range for describing your motivation and practical contribution would also help you express your ideas more precisely and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including “I am keen interested in this job as I want to gain knowledge…” and “I have good communication skills that will help me to guide visitors.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors occur in sentence construction and verb patterns. For instance, “As I am on my official college drop for two months. So I want to utilise that time” is an incomplete dependent clause followed by a fragment, while “when i will apply to a job” uses an unsuitable tense pattern. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly the lowercase “i.” Build complete sentences, use standard conditional and time clauses, and proofread punctuation and capital letters to improve control.
