Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you regarding the voluntary job offred by your museum. I live in the same area and I would like to apply for this position.
Since my childhood, my father always took me to visit your museum. So for me the museum is more than a simple building but it is a part of my nice pure childhood. Also, I have been planning to volunteer and help growing our town and I believe this is an excellent oppertonnity for me.
The reason why I think I am the perfect fit for this position is my history major, I am a student in my final year. In fact, I have a good knowledge about deffirents painting portrails and art exibitions so helping the visotors won't be a problem for me. In addition, I am a fast learner and I adabt quickly to the work rythm.
I would be availible starting of the 5th july from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, all week except friday. I would be gratful if you give this opportunnity to devollep myself and shape my knowledge.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
King regards,
Lamia.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you apply for the role, explain your personal connection to the museum, describe relevant abilities, and state your availability. The memory of visiting with your father gives a specific reason for applying, while your final-year history studies and knowledge of art are relevant to helping visitors. Your availability is also concrete, with a start date, hours, and a day you cannot work. To strengthen the response further, develop how your studies or personal qualities would benefit the museum, rather than mainly asserting that you are a “perfect fit.” Also clarify whether the stated hours apply every day you are available.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from the application, to your motivation, to your qualifications, and finally to availability and thanks. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “In fact,” and “In addition” help connect related points. The reader can follow the purpose throughout. Some connections are a little mechanical, however, and the sentence beginning “The reason why I think…” is overloaded because it joins your claim of suitability directly to your studies. For a more polished progression, separate the claim from its supporting evidence and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas, such as explaining how your history studies prepare you to assist visitors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the museum and the role, including “history major,” “painting portraits,” “art exhibitions,” and “visitors,” and you communicate your motivation clearly. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “fast learner” and “adapt quickly.” However, spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the wording less fluent, including “offred,” “oppertonnity,” “deffirents,” and “availible.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “help growing our town” and “work rythm.” Choose familiar, accurate collocations and proofread carefully. More precise language about the tasks you could perform, such as welcoming visitors or explaining exhibits, would also demonstrate greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “Since my childhood…” and the relative clause “the reason why I think…”. Most of the message remains understandable, and the errors rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. Some grammatical patterns need more control. For example, “my father always took me” would be more natural as “my father used to take me” for a repeated childhood habit, and “I would be available starting of the 5th July” has an awkward construction. The sentence beginning “The reason why…” also needs clearer grammatical organisation. Practise accurate time expressions and sentence boundaries, and check articles and prepositions when editing.
