Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in working as an unpaid worker in your museum. I have noticed the advertisement of hiring part-time volunteers in your website.

Basically, I have completed my graduation in PSW programme.Likewise,I have a two years of working experience as a personal support worker in Seasons retirement home,Camrose. I like to work in this field because of my interest in taking care of people who need help.

I have good communication skills, leadership skills and I am reliable and punctual in my alloted work as well. Additionally, I studied some topics related to basic first-aid as well.

I am available during both weekends and weekdays. In weekdays monday to friday (8am-5pm) and weekends like Saturday and sunday(10am-4pm).If you need any assistance during holidays you can call me anytime.

Thank you for your prompt response and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Sree

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you explain your interest in helping people, describe relevant experience and qualities, and give specific weekday and weekend availability. Your PSW background and first-aid knowledge are relevant, and the letter has an appropriate application purpose. However, the reason for choosing a museum is not fully clear: “I like to work in this field” refers to care work rather than museum volunteering. The skills are listed but not connected to likely museum duties, such as assisting visitors or supporting events. Develop these links and clarify your motivation for this particular setting so that all parts of the task are covered more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening states your purpose, the following paragraphs cover your background and qualities, and the final section gives availability and closes politely. This makes the main information easy to locate. Some linking is already present through “Likewise” and “Additionally,” but the progression within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and the availability details are crowded together. For example, “In weekdays monday to friday…” would be clearer as a complete sentence or a neatly structured list. Use transitions that show the relationship between your experience and suitability, and separate the schedule into a more readable sentence. This would make the organisation feel more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for an application, including “express my interest,” “communication skills,” “reliable,” and “punctual.” The reader can understand your main points, and some terms relate appropriately to your work experience. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “unpaid worker,” “advertisement of hiring,” and “in my alloted work.” The repeated use of “skills” and general wording also limits precision. Choose conventional expressions for volunteering and describe your abilities in terms relevant to museum visitors. Check spelling and word forms, including “allotted,” and use more natural collocations. These improvements would make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your letter includes both simple statements and some longer structures, and the intended meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some errors in sentence formation, articles, prepositions, and punctuation. For example, “I have a two years of working experience” has an incorrect article and number pattern, while “I am available during both weekends and weekdays” is followed by a fragment beginning “In weekdays.” Capitalisation and spacing also need attention in “monday to friday” and “weekdays.In.” Aim to write complete sentences for the schedule and check agreement and article use. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing sentence variety, would strengthen the letter.
