Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are having great week. I rode over the newspaper that you are looking for volunteers for the museum work and I will be more than happy to do part-time voluntary at your museaum.
Recently, I had completed my master's in history and at present I have nothing to do but I am applying jobs in the public parks, art galleries and museums.I think it is right time for me for startup by doing unpaid work. Eventually, it could help me to gain experience for the future career opportunities.
I will bring lots of skills with me as I studied history in which I learnt about different museums and their importance of having precious things inside it. Moreover, I can be wonderful tour-guider, I am quite aware with the historical paintings and statues.
Lastly, I am available to start my work in the beginning of the next week.
I hope to you see you soon and please do not hesitate to contact me.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your motivation through your history degree and desire to gain experience, describe relevant knowledge of museums and historical objects, and state that you can start at the beginning of next week. The purpose of the letter is clear and the details are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, your availability gives a start date but not the days or hours you could work, and your skills would be more convincing with a specific example of guiding, communicating with visitors, or handling responsibilities. The motivation is also somewhat general. Develop these details and make the application more persuasive while keeping the focus on the museum role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening application, a paragraph about your motivation, one about your skills, and a closing statement about availability. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Lastly” help signal the progression, and the reader can follow your main points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some movement towards more flexible cohesion. However, the transitions are somewhat formulaic, and the final availability point is very brief compared with the earlier paragraphs. The closing sentence also repeats the idea of future contact without adding much. Use more natural links between related ideas and develop the availability paragraph so the letter feels more balanced and smoothly connected.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the application, including “master’s in history,” “historical paintings,” “statues,” and “career opportunities.” These choices communicate your background and interests, and you attempt some less common language connected with museum work. However, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions limit precision, such as “rode over the newspaper,” “part-time voluntary,” “startup,” and “aware with.” There are also spelling errors in “museaum” and “tour-guider.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your purpose, but they make the letter less natural and professional. Choose standard collocations and check spelling; for example, say that you “read in the newspaper” about the vacancy and can “work as a tour guide.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “Eventually, it could help me to gain experience” and the sentence beginning “as I studied history.” The main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are present, however, particularly with articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “I hope you are having great week” needs an article, while “Recently, I had completed” is not the natural tense for this context. The long sentence beginning “I will bring lots of skills” joins separate ideas with a comma, and “I hope to you see you soon” has an incorrect word order. Review these patterns and punctuate joined clauses carefully to improve accuracy while retaining varied sentence structures.
