Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this to apply for the part-time job that you have posted on the internet for the museum 'The Antique'.
I would like to work voluntarily for this position, so that I can learn about the history of our heritage as this museum includes such paintings as well as sculptures. Also, I can use this experience to fill up my resume for upcoming opportunities.
As I used to work as a customer representative in 'Scotiabank'. So, I already have a few qualities which can be designated for the role you are looking for: communication, team-work and leadership.
Let's talk about my availability, which is mainly on weekdays(9am-5pm). Moreover, I am willing to work on some weekends when I do not have a class. I can start from the upcoming monday(28 august).
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your regards,
Harshdeep Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your interest in learning about heritage, mention customer-service experience and relevant qualities, and give weekday and weekend availability plus a possible start date. However, some points are only briefly developed. For example, “communication, team-work and leadership” lists qualities without showing how you would use them with museum visitors or colleagues, and the reason about adding experience to your résumé is not explained further. The response is also four words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more relevant detail. Expand on your motivation and give a concrete example of how your previous work would help you contribute.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: application, motivation, relevant experience, availability, and a closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Also” and “Moreover” make relationships between ideas clear. The sequence of availability details is also easy to understand. To make the organisation more polished, avoid announcing a section with “Let’s talk about my availability,” which sounds conversational for a formal application. You could use a more natural transition, such as “Regarding my availability,” and connect your customer-service experience directly to the qualities you list. The closing is clearly separated, though its wording should be made more conventional.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “voluntarily,” “heritage,” “sculptures,” “customer representative,” and “availability.” These choices communicate your main points, and the reader can understand the application. There are, however, some imprecise or unnatural expressions: “fill up my resume” is not the usual collocation, “qualities which can be designated for the role” is unclear, and “part-time job” does not clearly convey that the work is unpaid. The museum’s name and the reference to its collection add useful specificity. Aim for more natural application-letter phrasing and precise vocabulary for voluntary work, while retaining the relevant details you already include.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the purpose clause “so that I can learn” and the relative clause “which is mainly on weekdays.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. “As I used to work as a customer representative in ‘Scotiabank’. So…” creates a sentence fragment; combine the ideas into one complete sentence. In “I can start from the upcoming monday,” the preposition and date phrasing need adjustment, and “Monday” requires a capital letter. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as the space before the comma in “weekdays(9am-5pm).” Use complete sentences and check capitalization and punctuation carefully.
