Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am requesting a letter about looking for people to do part-time voluntary/unpaid work in a museum. Which is located in Habsiguda. So, I would like to do voluntary work in Birla temple museum. I have been interesting since my childhood to protect our ancient rich cultures and beautiful traditions. Which is why I want to participate in this.

In addition, I would appreciate it if you could accept my request. Beacuse it would be helpful in my career like I engage my precious holidays time on doing social activities and I enhance my confidence level due to managing the museum. Furthermore, this museum not only helps educational purpose but also entertainment purpose.

I am available on July 27th to November 28th 2026. These days I have holidays. Therefore, I will attend and I do my best in this unpaid work.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours faithfully,

Manasa Chindam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You make a relevant attempt to apply and give a reason for your interest, mentioning your wish to protect “ancient rich cultures and beautiful traditions.” You also state a period when you are available. However, the application is not clearly expressed at the start: “I am requesting a letter about looking for people” describes the advertisement rather than directly applying for the role. The required skills and qualities are largely missing; managing a museum is mentioned as a hoped-for benefit, not as evidence of what you can offer. Your reasons for applying are also only briefly explained. Develop the motivation and include specific abilities, such as communication, organisation, or working with visitors, to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for reasons and availability, and an appropriate closing. Linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore,” and “Therefore” help signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are unclear or mechanical. For example, “Which is located in Habsiguda” and “Which is why I want to participate in this” are sentence fragments, so the reader has to connect them to the preceding sentences. The paragraph about career benefits also combines several ideas without a clear progression. Make the opening a direct application, group each task point in a focused paragraph, and use complete sentences with clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “voluntary work,” “ancient,” “traditions,” “confidence,” and “educational.” This gives you enough language to communicate the general purpose of the letter. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “I have been interesting,” “holidays time,” and “helps educational purpose.” “Requesting a letter” also does not express the intended application clearly. These choices sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Aim for precise phrases suited to a formal application, such as “I am writing to apply,” “during my holiday break,” and “supports education and public engagement.” Check spelling, including “Because,” as well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and connectors, and the main message is generally understandable. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur in both simple and more complex sentences. “Which is located in Habsiguda” and “Which is why I want to participate in this” are fragments; connect these clauses to complete sentences. In “I have been interesting since my childhood,” the verb construction is incorrect, while “I will attend and I do my best” shifts awkwardly between future and present forms. The availability sentence also needs a clearer grammatical frame. Practise complete sentences, accurate verb forms, and consistent tense, then proofread punctuation and clause boundaries.
