Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to apply for the part-time job as volunteer in your Musesum. As, I live not too far from this place, So, it would be not only easy for me to commute daily, but also helps in learning valubale skills.

Being an History student, this work is well suited for me to understand varoius aspects of our rich history and culture. Furthermore, this experinece would be beneficial for me to finish my thesis assignment on the subject "Art and Culrture".

Having an one year experinece of customer service and fluent communicating skills, makes me perfect candidate for this vacancy. Apart from this, i can also lift upto 80 punds and that shows i can easlity lift up heavy equipments and statues.

Please confirm us there any specific requirements whe it comes to age? Furthermore, my winter break is going to be start from next week. Hence, i am available to join from next Tuesday.

Hoping for the promt and positive response.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that the museum is convenient to reach and relevant to your history studies, describe customer-service experience and communication skills, and state that you can start next Tuesday during your winter break. The application purpose is clear, and the thesis connection gives a relevant personal reason. However, some details are less fully developed: the availability information does not say which days or hours you can work, and the lifting ability is not clearly linked to a likely museum duty. The question about age requirements is useful, but could be phrased more directly as a request for information about eligibility. Adding specific duties you could help with would make the application more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: motivation appears first, relevant experience and qualities follow, and availability and a closing come at the end. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Apart from this,” and “Hence” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth or mechanical, however. The opening sentence uses “As” and “So” together, and the shift from being able to lift heavy objects to asking about age requirements feels abrupt. The closing sentence is also separated from the sign-off without a fully natural transition. Use fewer, more purposeful connectors and group related information—for example, connect physical ability directly to handling or moving exhibits.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to an application, including “part-time,” “customer service,” “fluent communicating skills,” and “thesis assignment,” so the reader can understand your purpose and background. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “rich history and culture” and “heavy equipments and statues.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “Musesum,” “valubale,” “varoius,” and “experinece,” and some word combinations or forms are unnatural: “fluent communicating skills,” “finish my thesis assignment,” and “heavy equipments.” These reduce precision and make the letter less polished. Choose conventional collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “strong communication skills,” “complete my thesis,” and “heavy equipment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a reason clause (“As I live not too far…”) and a participial opening (“Having…”) as well as straightforward statements. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the letter. For example, “As, I live… So” creates an incorrectly punctuated and constructed sentence; “Being an History student” has an article error; and “makes me perfect candidate” is missing an article and has an unclear subject structure. The question “Please confirm us there any specific requirements…” also lacks the grammatical structure needed for a clear request. Work on articles, complete question forms, and sentence boundaries, then check verb forms such as “is going to be start.” More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
