Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hope you are doing well.

I am writing this letter to formally register my interest in taking up the part-time voluntary work at the museum.

I have been a regular visitor to the musuem since my childhood. I have always been fascinated by knowledge that the museum offers on different types of forests. I vividly remember visiting the museum first time when I was ten. The visit had a deep impact on me. I started reading every book on forest and its types that I could find in my school library. Since then, I have vsitied the musuem atleast 50 times and everytime there is something new to learn. The impact of the visits was such that I have have taken forest studies as my under graduate course.

I bring in deep understanding of the forest science, which makes me equipped to take any guided tours. I am also familiar with the museum map as I have been coming to the museum for more than a decade now. I also speak english, hindi and french and hence would be able to cater to both domestic and international visitors.

I will be available for work from next onwards from 30th October 2026. I can take up the part time voluntary work for an year. I will not require and accomodation or transportation as I live very close to the museum and can manage it on my own.

Hope you will consider my application and will give me an opportunity to work partime with the museum.

Kinds Regards,

Sushant Barthwal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requirements clearly: you explain your long-standing interest in the museum, describe relevant knowledge and language skills, and state your availability and intended period of service. The childhood visit and your decision to study forest studies give the motivation a personal, supported basis, while your familiarity with the museum and ability to speak three languages are useful examples. The application’s purpose remains clear throughout. To make the response even more complete, clarify the exact start date and days or hours you can work: “from next onwards from 30th October 2026” is unclear. The accommodation and transport detail is less central than the requested availability, so use that space to specify your schedule.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression from the application, to your motivation, relevant skills, availability, and closing request. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Since then” and “hence” show relationships between ideas. The account of your visits also develops logically into your choice of course. Some connections and phrasing are less smooth, however: the availability sentence “from next onwards from 30th October 2026” interrupts the otherwise clear flow, and the final sign-off includes both “Kinds Regards” and “Best,” which is redundant. Use a more precise transition into your schedule and one conventional closing to make the organisation feel more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a formal application, including relevant expressions such as “formally register my interest,” “guided tours,” and “international visitors.” The vocabulary also communicates your enthusiasm and subject knowledge effectively. However, some spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, including “musuem,” “vsitied,” “atleast,” and “accomodation.” A few phrases are awkward or imprecise: “knowledge that the museum offers on different types of forests” and “cater to both domestic and international visitors” could be expressed more naturally. Aim for accurate spelling and collocations, and choose concise, specific wording. For example, “provide tours for” is more natural than “take any guided tours” when describing what you could do as a volunteer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and several sentences communicate detailed ideas clearly, such as the account of how your visits influenced your studies. Some grammatical errors remain, although the overall meaning is generally clear. “Hope you are doing well” omits the subject, while “I have have taken” repeats the auxiliary. In “I will be available for work from next onwards from 30th October 2026,” the time expression is not formed clearly; write, for example, “I will be available from 30 October 2026.” The sentence about taking the work “for an year” also needs the article “a.” Proofread for repeated words, complete sentence structure, and accurate time expressions.
