Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my keen interest in part-time voluntary work which is unpaid. I, recently, came to know about this position at your museum via job posting on newspaper.
I have just completed my graduation from L.D. College of Arts. History was my main subject and I am fond of history which is why I am applying for this position. By working at your museum, I can extend the horizon of my knowledge concerning our history.
Talking about the skills I have, firstly, I am outspoken individual with impressive command of communication with strangers. Consequeslty, I can explain everyone about the history and various incidents about our history.
Since, I have completed my graduation, I will be able to start working as soon as possible. Once all the documents will be varified from your side, I will be able join next day.
Please, let me know if you require more information besides my resume which I have attached to this email. Looking forward to work with you.
Sincerely,
Nimesh Acharya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you explain your interest in history, mention communication skills, and state that you could begin soon. The reason for applying is relevant, especially your wish to broaden your knowledge of history. However, the skills section is narrow: being outspoken and communicating with strangers is useful, but you could add a specific quality such as reliability or patience and explain how it would help visitors. Availability is also only partly detailed; “as soon as possible” and “join next day” do not say which days or hours you can work. The letter is appropriately directed to the museum director, but developing these details would make the application more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce your application, explain your interest, describe a skill, and finish with availability and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Talking about the skills I have” signal a change of topic. The progression is generally easy to understand, though some links feel mechanical or awkward, including “Consequeslty” and “Since, I have completed my graduation.” The final paragraph also moves quickly from availability to the attached resume and closing. To strengthen the flow, use simpler, more natural transitions and connect each paragraph’s details more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “keen interest,” “main subject,” “command of communication,” and “various incidents,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for this context. “Extend the horizon of my knowledge” would more naturally be “broaden my knowledge,” while “explain everyone about the history” is an unsuitable collocation. Spelling errors such as “Consequeslty” and “varified” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases for museum work and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, for example, “History was my main subject and I am fond of history which is why I am applying for this position.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction and punctuation. In “I am outspoken individual,” an article is needed, and “I will be able join” needs “to” before “join.” The sentence “Once all the documents will be varified from your side” has an incorrect future construction; use “Once you have verified my documents.” Commas after “I, recently,” and “Since,” are also unnecessary. Review articles, infinitives, and clauses beginning with “once” to improve control.
