Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to kindly request your assistance with attaining part-time volunteer work at the museum. Recently when I was scrolling the internet, I came across that you are looking for a volunteer.
I have been really interested in working at your esteemed art museum for last couple of years. I have just completed my final exams; therefore, I have nothing special to do at home currently. That is why I believe doing unpaid work would not only provides me valuable experience but also hones my skills.
I consider myself the suitable person for this unpaid work because of my interest and studies. I have finished my masters in art work due to which I have vast knowedle related to this field that I now want to apply pratically. Moreover, thanks to my inerest, I am unlikely to feel monotonous while working there. Lastly, I have excellent communication, customer service and co-ordination skills. I am also able to work in a team as I have worked in couple of projects with my classmates that turned out outstanding.
I would appreciate if you appoint me as soon as poosible at your convenience. You can contact me either on phone call or email.
Waiting to hear from you soon.
Your Sincerely,
Manpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You explain your interest in the museum and give relevant reasons, including your art studies, desire to gain experience, and communication and teamwork skills. However, the application is not fully effective because the availability requirement is omitted: you do not say which days or hours you can work. Some supporting details are also unclear or weakly framed, such as saying you have “nothing special to do at home,” which does not present a strong reason for volunteering. The request for appointment “as soon as possible” does not replace practical availability details. To strengthen the letter, state specific times you are free and develop your motivation in terms of what you hope to contribute to the museum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your motivation and qualifications, and the ideas generally progress from your reason for writing to your experience and closing request. Linking expressions such as “therefore,” “Moreover,” and “Lastly” help signal the sequence. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and some references are not fully clear—for example, “due to which” makes the relationship between your degree and your knowledge awkward to follow. The closing also moves abruptly from your qualifications to asking to be appointed. Use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph has a clear purpose, including a separate, direct statement of your availability.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for an application, including “valuable experience,” “communication,” “customer service,” and “co-ordination skills.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “esteemed,” though this sounds overly grand for a straightforward letter. Several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “attaining part-time volunteer work,” “vast knowedle,” “apply pratically,” and “feel monotonous” do not express your meaning naturally. “Unpaid work” is repeated often, and “interest” is also used more than once. Choose conventional application phrases and proofread spelling so your relevant skills and motivation are communicated more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “therefore,” and “as,” and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, however. In “would not only provides me,” the verb should be “provide”; “for last couple of years” needs an article and a more suitable time expression; and “I would appreciate if” requires “it” after “appreciate.” The sentence beginning “I have finished my masters … due to which” is also awkwardly constructed, making the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. Review verb forms, articles, and clause construction, and check punctuation and sentence boundaries when editing.
