Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as health issues and productivity loss, and the solutions provided, like time management and digital habits, are practical. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The example regarding 'Sleepwell company' is vague, and the discussion on kidney damage, while detailed, feels slightly tangential to the main focus on sleep deprivation itself. To reach a higher band, ensure that all examples directly support the main argument without drifting into medical specifics that may not be fully accurate or relevant to the core prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In result of that' or 'In result it increase'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'It is stipulated by group of people' in the introduction, which lacks a clear connection to the rest of the paragraph. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with attempts to use topic-specific terms like 'insomnia', 'productivity', and 'life expectancy'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'data carried out by', 'responsible to ruined', and 'full amount of sleep'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the control over word forms is inconsistent (e.g., 'maintainace' instead of 'maintenance'). While the meaning is always clear, the range is limited, and the errors in collocation prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('an adults life', 'an eight hours'), subject-verb agreement ('it increase life expectancy'), and preposition usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction, such as comma splices or run-on sentences. The errors are noticeable but do not impede communication, which is characteristic of the Band 6 level.
