Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, Inability to get enough sleep is a major difficulty faced by various individuals resulting to many complaints. This lack of sleep could result to health problems such as High blood pressure and weak physique in humans. However, lack of sleep in people can be controlled by reducing their overthinking as well as disengaging from stressful activities.
First and foremost, hypertension and weak physical appearance is a major issue caused by difficulties in getting enough sleep. When people lack the regular sleeping hours, they tend to loose their biological physique because their body finds it hard to relax and heal itself at the right time. The heart also overworks by pumping excessively without a little rest to recover from a long day. A typical example is the recent statistics released by the World Health organization (WHO) in 2026, on major causes of excessive blood pressure in humans laying emphasis on the negative impact of lacking good sleep as well as leading to critical conditions such as stroke in more population over the years. Therefore, bad health situations and hypertension are major problems caused by sleeplessness.
However, individuals dealing with sleep deprivation can control it by reducing their overthinking level and abstaining from stressful activities. If people develop the habit of cautioning themselves by overlooking anything that might want to bother them in any situation, it keeps their state of mind far and safe from overthinking. Furthermore, any activity that might result to overworking of the individual should be out of their schedule, which means individual must get enough rest everyday before even going to sleep. For example, Mr Greg the mechanic stated in his interview with the healthcare workers on national TV that since when he has restricted his daily routine from carrying heavy engines at his workplace to just diagnosing cars for clients, he has been able to get enough sleep rest. Thus, low stress activities and freeing mind from excessive thoughts is a major factor used in controlling lack of sleep in people.
In conclusion, hypertension and critical physical appearance are major problems that can be caused by not having good sleep. Moreover, sleeplessness can also be avoided by ensuring good rest and abstaining from overthinking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as hypertension and stress reduction. However, the development is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the conclusion merely restates the points made in the body paragraphs without adding depth. The example of 'Mr Greg the mechanic' is a good attempt at personalising the response, but the reference to 'WHO in 2026' is speculative and slightly distracting. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced analysis rather than just listing the problems and solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main requirements of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'However', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, though the link between 'weak physical appearance' and 'lack of sleep' is not fully explained, as the term 'physical appearance' is a bit vague in this context. Overall, the structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'hypertension', 'sleep deprivation', and 'biological physique'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'resulting to' should be 'resulting in', and 'loose their biological physique' should be 'lose their physical health'. The phrase 'weak physical appearance' is also an awkward collocation for the health consequences of sleep loss. While the meaning is clear, more precise vocabulary would enhance the quality of the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'resulting to' instead of 'resulting in', 'more population' instead of 'more of the population', and 'individual must get' instead of 'individuals must get'. Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and pluralisation. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
