Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the link between 'sore bodies' and 'accidents' is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with clear, logical reasoning. The introduction is slightly confusing, and the position is not clearly articulated throughout the essay. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific examples or detailed explanations rather than listing general statements. While the task is addressed, the lack of depth in the arguments limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between the discussion of problems and solutions is abrupt. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences feel disconnected from the previous ones. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the flow of ideas regarding 'sore bodies' and 'accidents' is disjointed. Improving the use of transition signals (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition') would significantly enhance the logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'sore', 'work', and 'sleep' repeatedly. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'non sleeping people' and 'work overload', which sound unnatural. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to health, productivity, and lifestyle, and focus on using words in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'sleeping is not taking seriously', 'we can going to job', and 'If we don't enough sleep'. These errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction are noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is usually decipherable, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing verbs or incorrect word forms will be beneficial.
