Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the link between sleep deprivation, workplace productivity, and mental health. However, some points are slightly repetitive, particularly the discussion on physical health and the impact of technology. While the position is clear throughout, the development of the solutions could be more nuanced; for instance, the suggestion to 'limit wishes like luxury lifestyle' is a bit vague and not directly linked to sleep hygiene. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'To sum up' helps guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are used mechanically, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Hence without sleep are not capable to do any physical workout'. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'insomnia', 'productivity', and 'technological gadgets'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'screening effect' (likely meaning 'screen time') and 'not hinders their productivity' (should be 'does not hinder'). Some phrasing is repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'problems' and 'work'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('most people says') and article usage ('the productivity of work'). There are also issues with sentence construction, such as 'which is not just impact on their health but also the people near them' (missing verb 'an impact'). Punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While the errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
