Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. However, the development of the 'problems' section is slightly generic, focusing primarily on stress and technology without exploring the physiological or long-term health consequences in depth. The position is clear throughout, and the structure is logical. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or elaborate on the consequences of sleep deprivation beyond general stress, such as cognitive impairment or physical health risks.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Consequently,' and 'Nevertheless' effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the comma splice after 'technology' in the second paragraph. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'rising prevalence,' 'adversely impacting,' and 'remedial actions' show a good command of language. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'comparing culture' or 'higher amount of stress,' which could be phrased more naturally. While the vocabulary is adequate and allows for clear communication, it lacks the sophistication and idiomatic control required for the higher bands. Focusing on more precise collocations will improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as the misuse of articles ('the disturbed sleep patterns') and awkward phrasing ('is incredibly allowing'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'some psychological problems, such as stress or depression are highly causing this grave issue.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures and better attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage.
