Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's society, finding solutions to societal challenges has become important issues like getting enough sleep has become problem that demand immediate consideration. In this essay, I will explain the effects of lack of sleep and how to manage sleep routines.

First of all, one of the most apparent issue is caused by work load . People are running after doing more and more work to earn more money, so they have insufficient time to manage tasks. Consequently, they are not able to get 7-8 hours sleep. For instance, in recent research by WHO, they figured out that 80 out of 100 men and women are suffering from insomnia. Furthermore, individuals are suffering from anxiety, depression and any mental disorder, but due to lack of awareness they are not taking it seriously. As a result, it has become major concern for people.

However, significant steps should be taken by the public to reduce the problem of sleeping. Appropriate actions should be taken for the betterment of health so people should be have a balanced diet with protein , nutrients and vitamins. They also adapt the habit of doing Yoga and meditation which helps them to stay calm and relax. In addition, avoiding harmful habits such as alcohol, smoking and drugs. Moreover, people have to fix their schedule and balance is important between work and sleep.

In conclusion, I would like to restate that due to workload, unhealthy diet as well as bad habits this problem occur but there are numerous measures should be taken to resolve this issue such as meditation and avoid consuming bad items.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by sleep deprivation and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention anxiety and depression, these points are not fully explored or linked back to the impact on daily life. The solutions provided, such as 'balanced diet' and 'Yoga', are relevant but could be expanded with more specific examples or explanations of how they directly improve sleep quality. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported with a clear explanation or a more detailed example rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Consequently', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of work-related stress and the mention of mental disorders is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this problem' in the conclusion, which could be more precisely defined. Improving the variety and sophistication of your linking words will enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'insomnia', 'anxiety', and 'meditation'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'people should be have a balanced diet' and 'avoid consuming bad items'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid vague descriptors like 'bad items' or 'any mental disorder' in favor of more academic alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people should be have a balanced diet') and missing articles ('in recent research by WHO'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
