Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is recently found that people are facing problems related to the sleep. this thing happen because of many reasons. I would like to discuss the reasons behind this problem with conclusion in the following paragraphs.

The main reasons is Impaired Brain Function and Focus

When you miss out on sleep, your brain’s prefrontal cortex—the area responsible for decision-making and concentration—slows down. This leads to shorter attention spans, poor memory retention, and slower reaction times. For example, Studies show that driving after being awake for 18 to 24 hours impairs your reaction time as much as having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% (the legal limit for drunk driving in many places).

The another reason is mood Swings and Mental Health Issues sleep directly regulates neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. Chronic sleep loss increases irritability and stress, and drastically raises the risk of developing anxiety or depression. For example, People who suffer from chronic insomnia are significantly more likely to develop clinical depression compared to good sleepers, as the brain never gets time to reset its emotional regulation.

In the conclusion, lack of sleep is far more than just feeling tired—it is a serious physical and mental health risk that affects memory, mood, immunity, and heart health. However, most sleep problems can be resolved without medication by making intentional lifestyle adjustments. By prioritizing a consistent routine, reducing late-night screen time, and creating a restful bedroom environment, most people can dramatically improve both the quality and quantity of their sleep. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the comparison between sleep deprivation and blood alcohol levels. However, the essay fails to fully address the second part of the prompt (what can be done) until the final paragraph, which is quite brief. While the problems are well-developed, the solutions section lacks the same depth of exploration. To reach a higher band, ensure that both parts of the prompt receive balanced attention and more detailed development in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the body and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example' and 'However', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the introduction is a bit weak and lacks a clear thesis statement that outlines the structure of the essay. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary is generally appropriate and allows for clear communication. You demonstrate the ability to use topic-specific terminology such as 'prefrontal cortex', 'neurotransmitters', and 'chronic insomnia'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'take control on the things' and 'mainatain'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task, but incorporating more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions would elevate the response. Ensure you proofread for minor spelling errors to maintain a professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It is recently found' (should be 'It has recently been found'), 'this thing happen' (subject-verb agreement), and 'The main reasons is' (number agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in some instances. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
