Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the discussion on screen time and the need for professional help. However, the essay tends to over-generalize by repeatedly labeling insomnia as a 'disease' or 'patient' issue, which slightly limits the depth of the argument. While the position is clear, the development could be more nuanced by exploring broader societal impacts beyond individual health. Overall, the task is fully addressed with sufficient supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate problems from solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'For Instance' are used to guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'lack of sleep' is used as a sentence starter multiple times). The progression of ideas is clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better sentence-to-sentence cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'insomnia' and 'addiction'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'effect' used instead of 'affect' (e.g., 'not only effect our physical health'), and 'patient of insomnia' instead of 'insomnia patients'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. Expanding the range of synonyms for 'lack of sleep' and 'improve' would enhance the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'anyone suffering from it need to improve') and article usage (e.g., 'at same time'). There are also persistent issues with word forms, such as 'inability of concentrate' instead of 'inability to concentrate'. While the writer attempts complex structures, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is generally functional, though some sentences are slightly run-on.
