Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the consequences of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'health issues' like blood pressure, the explanation remains superficial. The structure is clear, but the content could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, and the main ideas are relevant to the topic. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with a clear logical link rather than just listing consequences and solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One of the causes', 'Another cause', and 'Firstly'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'It result to people falling sick'. The transition between the problem and solution sections is functional but could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their intended antecedents would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'productivity', 'deprived', and 'essential'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'cause you your job' instead of 'cost you your job' and 'fruitful days' which is not the most natural fit for sleep deprivation. Some vocabulary is repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'lack of sleep'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and improve the sophistication of your expression.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Lack of sleep result to', 'It result to', 'the individuals gets to work'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the fragment 'For instance. when an individual...', and issues with verb tense consistency. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, especially verb endings and sentence boundaries, will significantly improve your score.
