Student answer (Band 6.5)

Getting a proper sleep has become a serious concern among people. A significant number of people have difficulties getting enough sleep. The main reason is enough working load and stress. I personally believe that regular exercise and healthy diet can be done to overcome this problem.

To begin with, many people are struggling to have a proper sleep nowadays. This is because of their hectic schedules and enough work load, therefore it results in lack of sleep. Moreover, its not just a sleep, instead it has a severe effect on person's health. For instance, when a person does not have a proper sleep, he will remain irritated with the closed ones. Also, an improper sleep damages bone strength in people. Which causes, pain and strain in the joints. Additionally, it has been seen that people with less hours of sleep tend to look order than their age and have grey hair in the early age of their lives.

Therefore, it is our moral responsibility to overcome this problem. This can be done by doing physical exercises such as gym and yoga. Due to which, an individual will relax his brain nerves and let his brain rests. Also, a proper healthy diet also plays a crucial role in people's health, So having proper meals that contains high protein will result in getting a proper sleep. Moreover, a morning walk can result in a better mood throughout the day which ultimately allows the individuals to stay calm and have a proper sleep at night.

In conclusion, a proper sleep in humans lives has a great impact. It allows a person to have a fresh start in the morning and have a smile on his face. Additionally, it maintains a good balance in person's health and work life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as mentioning irritability and physical health issues like joint pain. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that lack of sleep causes grey hair and looking older is a bit speculative and lacks scientific grounding. The solutions provided, such as exercise and diet, are clear but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper explanation to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between sentences could be improved for better cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which contributes to the overall readability of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'enough working load' and 'closed ones' (instead of 'loved ones'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. While the meaning is always clear, the student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common lexical items or idiomatic language effectively. Improving the range of synonyms and collocations would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'its not just a sleep' (it's), 'look order than their age' (older), and 'let his brain rests' (rest). Punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, such as the comma splice in '...people's health, So having...'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but control over them is inconsistent.
