Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention 'physical and mental issues' in the introduction, you do not elaborate on these specific health consequences in the body paragraphs, focusing instead on the causes (workload and shifts). The solutions provided in the conclusion are brief and could have been expanded upon with more specific examples or explanations. To reach a higher band, ensure that every part of the prompt is explored with equal depth and that your arguments are fully supported with clear examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from causes to solutions. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Due to frequently change in shifts workers be adjust'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would improve the flow of the text significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and incorrect collocations, such as 'expose insomnia' instead of 'develop insomnia' and 'frequently change' instead of 'frequent changes'. Additionally, there are repeated errors with homophones, such as 'there' used instead of 'their' throughout the text. To improve, focus on learning word families and common collocations related to health and workplace topics, and proofread carefully to avoid basic spelling and usage errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a good sleep keep a person healthy'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'might not able to sleep'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the number of errors is significant. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy and overall score.
