Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is argued that at present many people face challenges in getting enough sleep. There are several reasons for why this happen. This essay will discuss both the problem and solution to this argument.
To begin with, the number one reason for people to get lack of sleep is their smartphones. They have the Gama radiations which directly affects our mind. Smartphones are the way to escape the reality and it get people lost in their own thoughts. The average mean time for using phones in a day is approximately eight hours. For example, people use Instagram and watch reels on it for hours at night and when they really get tired they fall asleep with their phone on there are many cases that have the evidence for these cases.
However, we can reduce the effect of smartphones if we take several caution steps. We should have set reminder for the day and fix a time to use the smartphones. Moreover, a no phone should be added in the week where we only spend time with our family and friends without any distraction. Also, keeping the phone on silent mode would be a great approach so we didn't get distracted with the unwanted notifications or we can just turn off the unneeded announcements or uninstall the unused apps. In addition, people should have set workout and yoga routines.
In contrast, not getting enough sleep is a common problem in todays generation but it can be cured by taking several measured steps.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention smartphones as a cause, you do not explicitly detail the health consequences (e.g., cognitive decline, mood disorders, or physical health issues) as requested by the prompt. The solutions are practical but could be expanded with more depth. The introduction is slightly inaccurate as it claims to discuss 'both the problem and solution to this argument,' but the essay focuses primarily on smartphones rather than the broader issue of sleep deprivation. To improve, ensure you explicitly list and explain the negative impacts of sleep loss.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'However,' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the final paragraph is redundant, as it repeats the introduction's sentiment rather than providing a concluding summary. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'there are many cases that have the evidence for these cases,' which is repetitive and lacks specific clarity. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a distinct, well-developed focus would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas, such as 'approximately,' 'distraction,' and 'notifications.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and scientific claims, such as 'Gama radiations' (which is scientifically incorrect in this context) and 'average mean time.' These errors do not prevent understanding but do limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoid making unsubstantiated scientific claims. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to health and sleep hygiene would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'reasons for why this happen' (should be 'happens'), 'a no phone should be added' (awkward phrasing), and 'so we didn't get distracted' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors throughout. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors suggests that you need to focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage. Attempting more complex sentence structures while ensuring accuracy in basic grammar will help improve your score in this criterion.
