Student answer (Band 7.0)
A growing number of people are raising concerns for not getting adequate sleep. This essay will clearly state the problems of this trend and will also give optimal solutions to mitigate the issues.
To commence with, the main problem people face due to poor sleep quality is that they are less productive through out the day. To expound, since people with sleep difficulties often wake up in the middle of the night, they do not get adequate rest which is indispensable for the complete recovery of the body. As a result, they feel tired and exhausted whole day. This also impacts their productivity at work and family-life negatively. To exemplify, in 2022, a survey was conducted in the Headquarters of Amazon. Employees were asked about heir daily sleep patterns. Results showed that people with difficulties in sleep often have poor performance at work too. In addition to this, It has been clinically proven that people who do not sleep enough have memory issues. They are unable to remember an information for a longer period of time.
To address the second question, a plausible solution is performing yoga. To elaborate, since yoga have proven calming effects on mind and body, it provides a relaxing effect leading to better sleep quality. It not only reduces stress but also improves cognitive capabilities. Moreover, it has been also seen that reducing the screen time also helps in mitigating sleep issues. This means, due to the advancement in technology and digital services, screen time has significantly increased, specially in younger generation. However, limiting screen hours before bed time can help brain relax. Hence, boosting the sleep quality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as decreased productivity and memory issues, and the solutions of yoga and reducing screen time are logical. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. The example regarding Amazon is a bit generic and could be more effectively integrated to support the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed explanations or nuanced reasoning, as some sections feel slightly brief.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction and distinct paragraphs for problems and solutions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', and 'Moreover', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text. To improve, try to vary the cohesive devices and ensure that the links between sentences are more fluid rather than relying on standard signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The range of vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'indispensable for the complete recovery' and 'mitigating sleep issues'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'an information' (information is uncountable) and 'specially in younger generation' (should be 'especially' and 'the younger generation'). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('since yoga have proven' should be 'has proven') and article usage ('in the Headquarters' is unnecessary). Punctuation is generally fine, but there are some minor errors, such as the capitalization of 'It' in the middle of a sentence. The errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
