Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the mention of 'physical problems' and 'stress' is quite general and lacks specific, well-explained examples. The essay follows the instructions, but the arguments remain at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' more thoroughly, rather than just listing them. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis is insufficient for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or mechanical. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'work presser' and the 'survey' is not fully integrated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on common, repetitive phrases like 'hectic schedule', 'proper sleep', and 'get enough sleep'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'work presser' (work pressure) and 'be claim' (be calm). While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common lexical items that would elevate the response. Focusing on synonyms and more academic collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'everyone has hectic schedule' (missing article), 'they don't have enough time... and face' (subject-verb agreement issues), and 'individuals needs to be done' (incorrect passive construction). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they are persistent and affect the overall fluency. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound.
