Student answer (Band 6.0)

Healthy minds are developed by a proper balance between work life and sleep. Now a days insomnia or lack of proper sleep is one of the most debatable topic in field of psychology and medicine. There are multiple mental and physical health related problems arises from lack of proper sleep.

According to the medical, a healthy person must take an 8 hours of proper sleep to work efficiently and keep them healthy. We can quote multiple effects of improper sleep on a person's health and life.

First of all, when a person can not sleep for proper hours their bodies show a hormonal imbalance because staying awake for longer time disturbs circadian cycle and recently a study was made in England on disturbances in circadian rhythm of human brain due to lack of sleep. The results from this study were alarming because they deteriorate 80% mental health of a person and leads to issues life stress, anxiety and depression.

Secondly, If you can,t sleep properly you are unable work properly and it effects your working performance as well. This can be exemplified by a Canadian Research that was conducted in collaboration with a business firm. 50 employees were provided with proper sleep and 50 were kept on overtimes and they barely managed their 2 to 3 hours sleep. After 2 months their performances were evaluated and a clear difference was observed in their overall progress rates. The people with insomnia had 40% of decline in their working efficiency because their brains are not active properly.

In our daily life we also observed that if we do not take proper sleep even just for 2 days we notice its effects in our every task like we don,t work properly, eat properly and focus on everyday's task properly.

We should do some efforts to modify our routine to maintain our sleeping hours properly. First and foremost important thing is to reduce our screen time because it badly affects your sleeping schedule. Then avoid late night eating as it disturbs your stomach and eventually your sleep.

By adopting a healthy life style we can make our sleeping pattern better.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the consequences of sleep deprivation and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, and the use of examples, such as the study in England and the Canadian research, helps to support the arguments. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the consequences are discussed with some detail, the solutions section is relatively brief and could be expanded to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout, and the response maintains a consistent focus on the topic of sleep.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for consequences, and a conclusion for solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'First and foremost' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow between sentences. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'circadian cycle', 'hormonal imbalance', and 'insomnia'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'deteriorate 80% mental health' and 'not active properly'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate, though some minor errors exist.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('problems arises'), article usage ('According to the medical'), and punctuation (missing spaces after commas, 'can,t'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'leads to issues life stress'. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
