Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between 'health problems' and 'sleeplessness' is circular, as the essay states health problems cause sleeplessness, but then describes the symptoms of sleeplessness (stress/tiredness) as the cause. The solutions provided are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, well-reasoned explanations for how these problems manifest and how the suggested solutions can be practically implemented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'This is how' and 'This is why' are used incorrectly to introduce points. Additionally, some sentences are disjointed, such as the fragment 'and they might forgot the time that they spend whole night on it.' While the overall structure is evident, the lack of smooth transitions and the occasional misuse of linking words limit the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'hard time for getting' and 'health problem'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'people are addictive with their mobile phones' (should be 'addicted to') and 'result them in lack of sleep'. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, and there is a lack of flexibility in using less common lexical items to express ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the main reason... are'), incorrect verb forms ('which could unable them'), and punctuation errors (e.g., starting a sentence with 'And'). There are also tense inconsistencies, such as 'they might forgot'. While the errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures.
