Student answer (Band 5.0)

Todays world is very busy and it has complicated lifestyle too. People are complaining that they are not able to get enough sleep due to their lifestyle. There are some reasons behind it.

The lack of sleep causes several problems. The workload on an individual has become this much increase that they prefer their work more than their health. Firstly, the body feels very tired. People went through dizziness, headache, low energy. They do not feel energetic on next day and then again they got busy in further task. This continue busy lifestyle do not let them have break. Although, they do not eat enough and properly on time, brings lack of nutrition in their body. In the beginning they do not feel much bad about their body but slowly with the time problems becomes bigger. And at the end they end up in hospital for treatments.

Meanwhile, people need to balance their daily routine. They need to focus on themselves and should make proper time table for themselves in which they can eat properly and complete their sleep which is necessary for their body. The work load needs to be decreased. Less work load will give enough time of themselves. They need to fix the hour of sleep.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt—the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the discussion. While the ideas presented are relevant, they are underdeveloped. For instance, the mention of 'dizziness' and 'headache' is a good start, but the explanation of the long-term consequences remains superficial. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples or more detailed explanations. Because the response is only 211 words, it fails to fully develop the arguments, which negatively impacts the overall task achievement score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the conclusion is incomplete, consisting only of the phrase 'In conclusion'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'they' to start sentences. Paragraphing is present, but the logical progression between ideas is somewhat disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to connect your ideas more fluidly. The lack of a proper conclusion significantly hinders the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on simple, repetitive language such as 'busy', 'problems', and 'work'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'this much increase' instead of 'such a significant increase' and 'fix the hour of sleep' instead of 'establish a consistent sleep schedule'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and precise collocations related to health and lifestyle. Avoid repeating the same words in close proximity and focus on using more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'This continue busy lifestyle do not let them', which should be 'This continuous busy lifestyle does not let them', and 'they got busy in further task', which is grammatically awkward. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are areas that require attention. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help raise your score in this criterion.
