Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as work-life imbalance and stress, and the solutions provided, like diet and counselling, are logical. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how 'scary sleep' (an unclear term) occurs is vague. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more precise examples. The essay covers all parts of the task well, but the depth of analysis remains at a general level, preventing it from reaching the higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to this', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition into the second paragraph. Additionally, there are instances where the flow of ideas is slightly disrupted by grammatical errors, such as the phrase 'By increasing commitments from their infants', which does not clearly link to the preceding sentence. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the management of cohesion could be more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices or non-standard collocations, such as 'scary sleep', 'disorder their sleep', and 'Turt juice' (likely a typo or non-standard term). While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary related to the topic (e.g., 'well-being', 'counselling', 'meditation'), the errors in word choice occasionally draw attention. To improve, the student should focus on learning more natural collocations and ensuring that the vocabulary used is appropriate for the context of a formal essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('If a person manage', 'Healthy diet keep them'), incorrect verb forms ('sleeping has becoming'), and awkward phrasing ('hiring a certified psychologists'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels repetitive or disjointed. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures, which is necessary for a higher band score.
