Student answer (Band 6.0)
One of the growing concerns of people now-a-days is the in ability to get sufficient sleep. This essay will discuss about the problems arising from a lack of sleep along with some practical solutions to help tackling this problem.
In earlier times, people enjoyed a good and relaxing sleep routine with a healthy duration of six to eight hours per day. With the rising trend of social media usage and online work, this routine has been adversely affected. While a healthy sleep routine refreshes and replenishes most bodily functions, a poor sleep routine can cause laziness, irritable mood and memory loss as well. Lack of sleep is often associated with low productivity at work along with low energy levels at home. My colleague, who was about to graduate from university, dropped a semester down due to poor grades. Upon inquiring, it was found that he had joined a call center which operated throughout the night. This deteriorated his sleep patterns and led to poorer grades.
In my opinion, people must take their sleep duration and routine seriously. All activities, if not urgent, can be delayed if they come in the way your health and comfort. Therefore, one of the solutions is to prioritize your sleep over usual tasks. My sister had a hormonal disorder during her teenage. The doctor advised her to improve her sleep routine and it worked like magic. In less than three months, her reports and health overall improved remarkably. Other solutions include limiting the use of social media and online work at night, sleep friendly work routines and policies at the government level.
To conclude I'd like to say that health is wealth and having a proper sleep routine is essential for a balanced life. We should not ignore the importance of getting enough sleep and pay attention to our sleep routines.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the problems caused by lack of sleep and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and supported by personal examples, such as the colleague who struggled at university and the sister who improved her health through better sleep. While the ideas are clear, the development could be more extensive to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on government policies is mentioned but not fully explored. Overall, the position is clear throughout, and the response fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Therefore', 'In my opinion', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother in places. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problems from the solutions, which aids the overall readability of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses some good collocations like 'deteriorated his sleep patterns' and 'replenishes most bodily functions'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'in ability' (should be 'inability') and 'sleep friendly work routines' (which would benefit from a hyphen). While the range is adequate, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would characterize a higher band. However, the meaning is always clear, and the vocabulary choice is precise enough to convey the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'discuss about' (should be 'discuss'), 'if they come in the way your health' (missing 'of'), and 'during her teenage' (should be 'teenage years'). Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the punctuation is generally correct. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate ideas clearly, though more variety in complex sentence structures and greater accuracy in preposition usage would improve the score.
